Acts 7:1-19

Acts 7:1-53-The accusations against Stephen were very serious and the high priest (Caiaphas) asks him if they are true.  In response, Stephen preaches to the a running history of God's work in Israel.  It is the longest sermon recorded in the book of Acts.

Acts 7:1-19-The conclusion to which Stephen will bring his hearers is found in verse 51, “…you are doing just as your fathers did”.  His method of doing this is straightforward and deliberate.  He demonstrates that throughout the history of the Jewish people God has been at work…and yet, time and again, the people resisted Him.  Verses 2-8 are a summary of God’s dealings with Abraham…the guarantee of the Promised Land, the warning of their time in Egypt, and circumcision as the sign of the covenant.  He briefly recounts the lives of Isaac, Jacob, his 12 sons.  Verses 9-19 are a summary of the life of Joseph…his rise to prominence during his life and the enslavement of the people to the king of Egypt after his death.

Prayer: Lord, please give me the recall and the insight into Your word that Stephen be able to recite it and to explain its truth in such detail and with such specific application.  Help me to be a witness for You.
