1 Corinthians 3
1 Corinthians 3:1-9-Paul chastises the church because they are still acting like immature believers. He had recognized this when he was with them before. And even now, he has to feed them on milk (the very basics of the faith), not solid food because they are still "fleshly" (acting like non-believers). The presence of jealousy and strife and taking sides is the evidence. They are still more concerned with their allegiance to different leaders in the church than to God, Himself.
1 Corinthians 3:10-23-Paul says that he was the one who started the church in Corinth (:10) and now others are building on that foundation. However, they need to be careful how they build and be certain that what they are doing is of God, and not of themselves (of their own ability)...because only that which is of God will last (:15). We understand the seriousness of this work when we remember that this building, the local church, is the temple of God…a building inhabited by God’s Spirit. There is a warning to those who would build for themselves...that in doing so you are causing destruction to the church of God and that you will be held accountable for it (:16-17). Each person must be willing to consider himself as foolish (inadequate in his own abilities), and become totally dependent on God in what he is to do (:18-20). And always remember that ultimately they are not working for themselves, but for God…because it all belongs to Him.
Prayer: Lord, I am totally dependent on You for all that You would have me to do. Please help me to minister solely in the power of Your grace. And help that to be evident to all, Lord. That I might be a model to others...and most of all, that You will receive the glory.
