Lay Counseling

Are you the kind of person that people always come to for advice or for spiritual insight? Have you lived through circumstances that make you uniquely qualified to help others through similar difficulties? If so, you may be the kind of person who would make a great Lay Counselor.

Lay Counselors characterize themselves as friends helping friends. They are trained in the skills of listening, clarifying, and goal setting, all undertaken through prayerful submission to the leading of God. They do not try to diagnose emotional problems or "fix" people or circumstances. They only come along side and walk with individuals through their difficulties.

Lay Counselor training consists of about 8 weeks of intensive training sessions one night per week. You must be a member of Temple Baptist Church in order to become a Lay Counselor.
