Acts 13:24-41-(Paul continues preaching) He tells them that the Jewish leaders did not accept Jesus as the Messiah, despite the fact that each Sabbath they heard the Scriptures read that pointed to Him (:27). These same men then put Him to death. But God raised Him from the dead (:30) and He appeared to the disciples for many days (:31). Paul says that they preach the good news that the promise made to the fathers had been fulfilled. The resurrection is the final proof of Who Jesus is (:33-37) because it is the climatic fulfillment of the prophecies concerning the coming of the Messiah. As a result, our sins can be forgiven (:38) and we are set free from the bondage to sin (the Law of Moses could not even accomplish that). Paul then gives them a warning that comes from the Old Testament to not hear this message and refuse it.
Acts 13:42-49-When the meeting was over the people kept asking them to tell them more on the next Sabbath. The next Sabbath there was a large crowd present. The Jewish leaders became jealous and tried to argue with Paul. They became so harsh in their arguments that they were blaspheming. Paul said that it was God's plan that the message first come to the Jews...but since they had rejected it, they were going to take it to the Gentiles (:46). The Gentiles rejoiced and many were saved.
Acts 13:50-52- However, this only angered the Jewish leaders all the more. They organized a protest and forced Paul and Barnabas to leave the area. As they left, they shook the dust off of their feet…a visual display that they had fulfilled their mission and were not responsible for the actions of the Jews. They then went to Iconimum.
Prayer: Lord, please help me to know when to stay, and when to leave. Help me to know who is open to Your message, and who is not open. Please help me to know if I should continue to share Your message with someone or, if You are leading me to move on to someone else.
