Hebrews 13

10:39-13:25-Our Great Faith, cont’d.

The Interpersonal Relationships of Faith (13:1-6)

Faith is Expressed through Love for Other Believers (:1)

Faith is Expressed through Kindness to Strangers (:2)

Faith is Expressed through Caring for the Oppressed (:3)

Faith is Expressed through Honoring Marriage (:4)

Faith is Expressed through Proper Values (:5-6)

  • trust the Lord for His provision and be content with what you have, believing that it is from Him, and don't become obsessed with money.

The Daily Practice of Faith (13:7-19)

The Example to be Followed (:7)

  • Remember what you have been taught and follow those who taught you as an example.

The Teaching to be Accepted (:8-9)

  • Jesus is always the same and so are His teachings...don't be caught up by the newest teaching to come around.

The Suffering to be Shared (:10-14)

  • Jesus was willing to go to where the people were (“outside the city”) in order to pay the price for their sins. So we too should be willing to go to people and suffer in their behalf if necessary.  This will demonstrate that we know that this "city", this life is not all there is.  There is a city that is yet to come, Heaven.  We should give God praise for what He has provided.  And the real praise that we offer to Him is demonstrated by a life of service to others.

The Praise to be Spoken (:15)

The Help to be Given (:16)

The Leaders to be Obeyed (:17)

  • Pray for your leaders...submit to them...they are responsible for your spiritual welfare and will give an account to God.  This should be a joy for them, and not a difficult task.  If it is difficult, it will not profit you.

The Prayers to be Offered (:18-19)

  • Pray for your leaders...submit to them...they are responsible for your spiritual welfare and will give an account to God.  This should be a joy for them, and not a difficult task.  If it is difficult, it will not profit you.

The Pleasing Work of Faith (13:20-25)

A Final Affirmation: God Will Equip Us for His Work (:20-21)

  • In this benediction (blessing) the author tells them that God will equip them for everything that they are called to do.

A Final Admonition: We are to Work with what He Equips (:22)

A Final Greeting (:23-25)

Prayer: Lord, please help me to live out my faith, by allowing You to live unhindered through me.  Teach me to make faith in You a way of life.
