Revelation 22:1-5-The Blessings of the New Jerusalem

Revelation 22:1-2

Life itself flows from the throne of God and of the Lamb.  The "twelve kinds of fruit" from the "tree of life" means that it is provided 12 months of the year, year round….all the time.

Revelation 22:3-4

There is no longer the curse that resulted from sin.  With the curse gone...there is unhindered fellowship between God and his people.

Revelation 22:5

God Himself will provide light forever.

Revelation 22:6-21 The Implications of this Prophecy

Revelation 22:6,16-The Source of the Prophecy

Revelation 22:6,7,10,12,20-The Urgency of the Prophecy

Notice how many times in this one chapter John speaks of the urgency of the coming of Christ…

shortly take place…:6

I am coming quickly...:7,12,20

the time is near…:10

Revelation 22:7,14-The Blessing of the Prophecy

John says that because the words he has written down are from God, they can be trusted.  When someone reads these words and puts them into practice he will be blessed (cf. 1:3).

Revelation 22:10,17-The Invitation of the Prophecy

In verse 10, the angel told John to not “seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near”.  This means that instead of keeping the prophecy secret and quiet…we should be telling it to others.  And we should do so now…because the day of His return is not far off.

Revelation 22:18-19-The Warning of the Prophecy

This is a warning against adding to or subtracting from what has been revealed in this book.

Revelation 22:20-21-The Affirmation of the Prophecy

John concludes the Revelation with a word of affirmation.  The word, “Amen” means, “I agree”.

Prayer: Lord, what a wonderful promise of what Heaven will be like.  Please help me to live in keeping with what You have revealed in this book.  You could return any moment...help me to live in such a way that I am always ready and prepared for Your return.  What a wonderful invitation You extend to all of us to come to You.  Help me to be faithful to extend that invitation to others.  Come quickly, Lord Jesus!  Amen.
